About This Game Omni Link is a visual novel at it's core, but it's unlike other visual novels you've read before. Game-play and dialogue choices mesh together so you can see a real impact to your decisions. A story is not only about reading, it's about experiencing. Suns are disappearing and planets are dying. No one knows exactly what the Virus is or what it wants. First up the story is a little confusing in places and the save system could have been better. Gameplay I finished in about 15 hours so for me is somewhat disappointing as I wanted it to go on. There isnt also much depth to the game sadly either. On the big plus side the story is where the game shines and the characters are really well done and feel like you can connect to them. I often found myself laughing or smiling at things and the game really does well at drawing you into the characters. I do wish there had been more choices though and too few oppertunities to influence that. The controls are easy and simple to use although I do wish for an ingame pause and the lack of options like sound or screen res isnt a big issue but should have been implimented. Like I said a mixed review but on sale def get it. I only wish it had been longer and hope for a sequel but sadly I cant see that happening.. I am pleasantly surprised by this game. The art is fantastic, the battle is easier to get used to than Endless Sky, the music is space relaxing and the worst problem I have with the game (other than the save... I suppose that will be remedied in the future) is trying to grab monies (please make them easier to pick up, it's exasperating trying to reposition to grab them when they have such small hitboxes). I am kinda worried how much content the full game will have because... well it really isn't too much at the moment. The title screen can look prettier and I can't Alt+F4 out of the game in full screen. Characters fawn over the MC a bit too easily... but this is Early Access. I look forward to its full release.Also, let's have a melee weapon on our ship. I recall a Unity jam I went to where someone made a 2D space game with ships wielding lightsabers. It was awesome.. I've rarely review Early Access games, but this one stuck with me enough to spur me into action. It fills a niche I've sought after for a while: a good Visual Novel with equally solid gameplay mechanics. It plays a good bit like the 'Escape Velocity' series of games, but with a much better interface for story and choices. The art is gorgeous, the story engaging, and the gameplay is satifying in both depth and challenge. If any of what I said sounds up your alley, I highly recommend supporting Omni Link!. Omni Link is a promising early access visual novel with some top-down shooter elements mixed in. I'm about an hour into the story and I'm enjoying it greatly. -Pros:--Great art and music.--Strong story.--Plenty of choices (I'm currently unsure just how much these affect the game as I'm not that far in but there are a lot of them so far).--Easy and hard difficulty modes for each persons playstyle.--Usable ships seem to have abilities depending on the ship type. One I've encountered has a shield for example and another can warp.--Short but sweet tutorial that shows you the ropes then drops you right into some gameplay.--You can have a computer-controlled fleet following you doing the hard work if you're bad at video games like me.-Cons (These are likely due to it being early access and may not apply to the final product):--Menus leave a lot to be desired, little to no options at all (There is however, a windowed mode accessable by hitting alt+enter)--Only one save allowed that I know of which is a bit daft in a game with choices, saving is just hitting "save" and "load".--No chat controls (i.e. dialogue history if you miss a bit or skip if you die and need to get back from a save point.)All things considered, I would recommend keeping an eye on this early access game as the only gripes I have found within the game are easily fixable with a future update. I'll be following this game closely and I look forward to playing it when its finished!This review will be occasionally modified when the game updates and when I get further in.. I played this game in Early Access so I've played the first 3 chapters as of right now. I love the story and the characters! I can't wait to finish this great game! I wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone who loves virtual novels!. At first I thought, "Huh, this feels just like asteroids!" when I got to the helm. But it's so much more than that.Omni Link is more of an RPG \/ VN hybrid with action in a vein similar to Asteroids for the space combat. You can explore and travel the star systems, but interactions are mostly combative or story driven. It's fun but the story is where it is really at.I greatly enjoyed the story. Good times between Keb, Arcadia, and Dawn. Malthus livens things up quite a bit. Suzumi's rescue was especially good for the soul. All in all, I probably enjoyed the story more than I would have going to see a movie for the same price tag.Music is freaking great. Honestly my favourite part is the sound track--I wish there was an add-on with the vocal tracks and some concept art.Art is very well done. I love the intermixing of comicbook\/manga style panels here and there, and the CGs that are scattered across the game are wonderful. Some of the moments are especially great such as the hug and the cowlick scene.Action as previously said reminds me of Asteroids. Augmenting that however is your fleet. As you pilot the main ship, Dawn takes care of your support ships and they are quite effective. Meanwhile you can morph into whichever one you like for direct control agains the enemy: allowing you to be the quick scout, the gunboat, etc and delegate the other roles to the A.I. backing you up.Towards the more typical VN parts things are a bit more sparse. Saving only can happen outside of the VN portions. No gallary, screenshots don't seem to work, etc. But it gets the job done. More focused on the space combat parts of the UI than providing an interface like renpy. No real complaints because the story is excellent..
